Luck on our side

Early evening 11th June 2014

I’m not sure if it was the right turn on a red light (there are times, and places, in the USA when this is OK), maybe it was an illegal U-turn or possibly being caught doing 39 mph in a 35 mph zone. Whatever we did, it prompted the LAPD to ‘pull over’ six of the London Pride Spinhalers crew.

Fearing, a fine (possible penalty points?) or even a driving ban, all six spoke in their best ENGLISH accents. Questions were asked and answered, then the mood instantly changed when the answer to “What are you doing in America?” was “Taking part in RAAM.”

The police officer on the right (Joshua) ONLY took part in the race last year! Within seconds he was giving our crew advice on how to speed up changeovers, the best way to deal with night time cycling etc. etc. etc…

As you can see from the photo, everyone appears happy and on good form and I believe Anglo/US relations have been improved as a result of this encounter.
