And they’re off!

10th June 2014

Today sees the Solo Riders start their epic journey for Race Across America. Including Shu Pillinger, from the UK who hopes to become the first solo female to complete the 3,000 mile race.

Good Luck and Godspeed to all the Solo Riders heading out from Oceanside later today.(12:00 CA, Pacific Daylight Time – 20:00 UK - British Summer Time)

Meanwhile, our team continue to fly into the States, today Captain John Hall and birthday boy Martyn Grant will arrive into LAX to be collected by Crew Chief Simon Jones and taken to Oceanside to reunite with the rest of the crew already setting up camp at the Ramada Oceanside  ahead of the start of the team event on the 14th June.

The support vehicles are being prepared with all the communications, IT, medical, nutritional and general kit needed to make sure the UK’s only 4 person team, and all the crew, make it safely across America.

This is an amazing challenge for all involved, from logistics to pedal power, but lets not forget why we are doing this.

Antonia Thomas was just ten years old when she sadly passed away from an asthma attack in 2009. It took under ten minutes for asthma to claim her young life, and she was only a mild sufferer who had visited the asthma nurse just two weeks prior. This condition is not “just asthma” it can be very serious and fatal to sufferers.

The London Pride Spinhalers are racing to raise awareness and funds for Asthma UK in memory of Antonia, her father Jeff Thomas is one of the support crew.

Asthma UK want a world where asthma is no longer a daily battle for some and where no one dies from the condition. Please help us to help them. Thank you!
