A Few Thoughts . . .

Nearly the 18th June 2014

17 different characters with one common aim – To complete the Race Across America and raise a decent amount of awareness and money for Asthma UK.

None of us had any idea how tough this was going to be. Although we planned and trained for 10 months, one of the things you can’t really simulate is fatigue.

Since the race started no crew member has had more than 3 hours sleep at any one time, several individuals seem to be operating on 90 mins every 15-16 hours. I sent a personal email yesterday and admitted to feeling guilty having just had nearly 3 hours sleep laid out on the floor of a support vehicle, any sleep I’d managed to get prior to this had been in a seated position in various different vehicles.

Everything is geared towards making the four cyclists lives as simple as possible, since they are the guys pedalling their way 3,000 miles from coast to coast. Even if things are going completely wrong, the riders (hopefully) never get to hear about it. They need to get food on board, rest and then back on their bikes for another 7 hour shift and so the circle continues until we arrive in Annapolis, hopefully sometime this weekend.

This is described as the toughest cycle event in the world, I wonder at times if that’s for the cyclists or the crew, or perhaps realistically it covers the team in it’s entirety.

This is a group of individuals who are creating a great team.

And we couldn’t have done it without the generosity of our sponsors, Fuller’s Brewery, Ark Data Centres, Skyscape Cloud Services, Vectura Group and Widcombe House Investments have all supported us financially to get the team across America, which means all funds raised will go straight to Asthma UK.

TechBenefits have ensured we have all the IT we need and Advance Investments Limited keep us communicating.

Immaculate created our wonderful website and Hartham Park provide our Mission Control base.

Without these companies we wouldn’t have been able to pull this all together, they are extended members of our team and we appreciate everything they have done, and continue to do, to support the London Pride Spinhalers.

Thank you All!
